Happy Unhinged Valentine's Day!
I drew these vintage children's valentine cards and I'm not sure they're family friendly😳

Some people love Valentine’s Day and say bring on the love notes and chocolates, please! And some people claim it’s just a capitalist holiday full of useless greeting cards and diabetic coma inducing corn syrup laden candy. (Oh, did I ever mention I actually design some of those valentine cards? I know, I get it. I’m part of the problem.)
But let’s not get too deep today. How about we draw some absolutely unhinged vintage valentines that were designed for children? I scoured the internets and found some doozies. I’m not sure they passed any sort of quality control or checked too closely for content because I don’t know who some of these cards were intended for. Definitely not kids, or at least I know they wouldn’t be allowed to be passed out in our school district without some calls from parents asking “what the stuff is going on here?!”
We doodled some cute cards that got progressively weirder in my latest Weirdo Drawing Club zoom sesh and it left us giggling and with more questions than answers. There were these cute illustrations of children threating violence toward one another. I kid you not. One card had this kewpie face cute kid holding a knife stating they’d like to cut their way into your heart. Pardon me?
Then we drew some more cards that went off the rails. I promise I’m not making up the fact that there was a flirty jar of mustard saying some rather suggestive things to a hotdog. I didn’t even realize how bad it was until I shared it and had to start to tell myself to shut up because I was blushing and afraid of what I might say on this livestream. To be fair, I was being a completely immature 12 year old and this card design probably meant nothing filthy.
But the folks in the chat and I beg to differ…and giggle about it senseless.
If you’re more in the mood to doodle cute valentines from years ago, then definitely check out

Have a happy Valentine’s Day, give someone a hug, eat something yummy, and be kind to yourself and others!💌
xoxo,
Deb

I think the fact that we basically had the same but also extremely different themes this week, and giggled our way through both, kind of perfectly exemplifies our friendship
LOVE the rainbow colors and drawings themselves! Is this some magical rainbow oil pastel or are you switching colors?? 🤩
